On the GoogleTalk side I tested with the built-in Gmail web chat sidebar, I also installed the GoogleTalk application. Both do not show the avatar for an external Jabber .account It's a one way street, I can see their(GoogleTalk) avatar, GoogleTalk users can not see mine.
I do believe this is a Google "block" as I've been reading that file transfers are only allowed in the GoogleTalk chat client. It must surely be a service issue. Possibly the image in a vcard also applies to the Google block of files being transferred by XMPP servers connected via s2s to Google. I wish this wasn't the case because to have a full interoperability Jabber/XMPP servers connected using s2s, the free flow of vcard information would be necessary for users to identify their friends in a manner they are familiar with.
