Just so's you know, I hosted my xml and images on google code and I still got the file not found issue (but not as often). It is not a silver bullet, just better than other options.

I knew that the Google Code hosting was mentioned in the Developer's Guide, but I had access to my own web space with my ISP so never bothered with Google Code. I've had "file not found" errors almost every time I submit a theme, but the submission is usually successful on the second try. I mentioned Google Code hosting in this thread as a last resort, and it's good to see that it worked so well for you. All we need now is for Google to update the Developer's Guide to actually RECOMMEND Google Code hosting and list the dangers of not using it, rather than simply mentioning it as an alternative in an EXAMPLE! But we all know how fast that will happen.....
