That's right about the file name. For instance, if you have an image file called "My Holiday Photo.jpg", try changing it to "my_holiday_photo.jpg" or "myholidayphoto.jpg".
Terry, as for photo size, there are many displays now much wider than 1400 pixels. I normally create my themes in XML using a 1680x175 image, which caters for my 1680 px wide display, and fills the 175 px height that iGoogle allocates for the header image. But the last time I did some tests using that size image in ThemeMaker, it got scaled down to 1600x167 - seems ThemeMaker doesn't cater for the newer, larger wide displays. I also tried using an image that was less than 1600 px wide, but 300 px high - that one ended up with the bottom cut off and a resultant cropped image 175 px high. It seems that the smallest image you can use is 600x175 - below that you get an error message. There seems to be no upper limit, but anything over 1600 px wide will be scaled down to 1600 px wide, and the bottom will be cropped off to 175 px high, unless the aspect ratio of the uploaded image is exactly 1600:175. This treatment results in the large number of themes showing foreheads, dogs' ears and skies! So if you aren't able to process your image before uploading it, just make sure you select the thin strip across the uploaded image that you want to see as the header, rather than selecting the full height of a large portrait photo. I develop all my themes in XML because it's more flexible and you can control things better, but ThemeMaker is still a good option for "non- techies" once you get the hang of it.
