Anyone with any linguistic knowledge would notice that for MOST
language pairs, Google translates using English as an intermediary.
For example, if you have a Russian document and you translate it to
French, Google will internally translate this document into English
and only then into French. The quality of the resulting translation is
unacceptable in my opinion and such kind of translation is a HOAX. I
would at least want Google to INDICATE when the translation is done
indirectly, so that I don't bother reading such translation.

To make tests, I went to a Bible site offering the Genesis book in
many world languages. I tried translating from some languages into
French. Here are language pairs, which are definitely translated
through English :

Google Arabic-French
proof of English intermediary : "à la surface deWater"

Google Bulgarian-French
proof of English intermediary : "Et Dieu dit: Let's rassembler de
l'eau"

Google Chinese-French
proof of English intermediary : "septième jour, établie à St Day"

Google Danish-French
proof of English intermediary : "être à l'assermentation Feed"

Google Japanese-French
proof of English intermediary : "inquiétant que l'on a speciousness"

Google Korean-French
proof of English intermediary : "la terre vous ferait thistly"

Google Polish-French
proof of English intermediary : "Brother est le nom de Jubal"

Google Portuguese-French
proof of English intermediary : "et pendulous son visage."

Google Ukranian-French
proof of English intermediary : "et de sow-thistle, il portera toi"

and so on.
