I partially agree. A problem for Googles translator is that is bases
(mainly) on parallel texts. I assume the world's biggest resource of
that will be some-Language || English ...
I doubt that there would be a real chance to change to e.g. Esperanto
as intermediate language.
Anyway, Google should give up translation through English, when there
are enough parallel texts for a specific language pair.  I think pairs
like German-French, French-Spanish, Finnish-Swedish, Spanish-
Portoguese are enough volumenous to run on its own, completely without
English.
