The Extension: I notice that there is no longer an option to "Show Original" on the translation bar. I would really like to see that back. Also, when I mouse-over text it no longer shows the original language in a window above. That was also very convenient.
Seems like you're taking some steps back if you ask me. I would like to be able to highlight words in the translation and see exactly what the original is, and also be able to translate highlighted text. I am in the process of learning Japanese, and relearning French so it's very helpful to be able to go back and forth. Japanese: Japanese could really use some work. It's good enough to make rough translations in most cases, even though it does often mistranslates words because of lack of context recognition. Japanese is extremely difficult when it comes to the written language. They have multiple sets of characters (Kanji, Hiragana, Katakana) and a large set of characters. While probably, less complicated than Chinese, it's still difficult. A word can be spelled identically with Kanji and have multiple phonetic pronunciations and meanings. Pronunciations differ further because of various dialects. This creates a language that is heavily subjective to the context in which words are said. Japanese isn't the only language like this, and while I don't know what Google has set up as far as translation algorithms, I can tell they are severely handicapped when it comes to contextual translation.
