You are mentioning Japanese. For anything oriental, Chinese or Japanese you have a mass of characters. What you have to do is to press down keys simultaneously.. You have key down. To illustrate - Suppose we want ch (looking like a straight Y". If you press c and h simultaneously you will get a c on key down. If you get an h with c on key down you will get ch. Vital for Japanese/Chinese but probably not needed for Cyrillic.
