Folks, Does anyone know why Tibetan does not have language support in Google?
Maltese is spoken by only 350,000 people. Yiddish is spoken by about 1 million. Irish Gaelic (which I speak and support strongly) is spoken by 40,000-80,000 people--NONE of whom are monolingual, save for a few precious elders. Tibetan is spoken by *6 million people* and has one of the oldest literatures in the history of the world. This cannot be an accident, can it?? 6 million speakers? Fonts are already developed. Extensive Tibetan-English and Tibetan-Chinese and Tibetan-Sanskrit dictionaries exist. I don't want to dwell on the answer too long--I'd rather solve the problem--but I do want to get to the bottom of it. A Chinese man recently told me that "Google would release Tibetan support soon, which will make it easier to track Tibetans but also easier for people to pose as fake Tibetans" (his words). Is he correct--is Google planning to release Tibetan support? And is Google working with the Chinese government to in any way enable them to invade Tibetans' privacy in some new way? Thanks very much to anyone willing to investigate this intriguing phenomena with me, and more importantly, to get Tibetan support off the ground. And adventure as always.
