There are some flaws with the Japanese algorithm. First, I am not sure if this is the proper place to post it, but the Chrome browser's automatic detection fails to detect pages encoded in Shift-JIS. I realize that there may be some limitations there, but I believe any site that is located at a 'co.jp' domain should force encoding preferences to change to Shift-JIS.
Second, Chrome browser does not always give the option to translate a page. Many times it will be a page that is almost entirely in Japanese except for a few English words in Romaji. Also, when I force an encoding change it will not bring up the option (even after refreshing). It seems that your detection is very poor in these regards. Also, there should at least be a way to FORCE the auto-translator to translate a page into a certain language. Why is this not available? I right-click a page and see an option to translate to english, but it is grayed out. How pointless is that. Does Google think it knows best? -- Another issue is the Japanese circle symbol, the '○' or 'maru.' It is usually used to show that a certain character has been omitted to prevent some sort of TM/copyright infringement or to censor a vulgar word. It would be nice to see Google handle this symbol is a more proper fashion. Because it's usually used somewhere on the inside of a word, it is to be expected that the previous character and following character should be linked, using the maru as a wildcard. So for example: 'ドラ○ンボルZ' we can assume that 'ラ' and 'ン' are linked by the maru, and the maru typically (if not always) indicates one character was omitted. By searching 'ドラ○ンボル' we find nothing. Again for 'ドラ○ンボ' we find nothing, but for 'ドラ○ン' we should get 'ドラゴン.' ドラゴンボルZ So when you translate it, it should be 'Dragon ball Z; and not ''Dora the symbol ○ Z'.' Yes, that is how Google translates it. -- I've also had problems with Google just not finding words. Why do you guys try to reinvent the wheen when Jim Breen's already beat you to a nearly perfect JP dictionary. Why not add to his work instead of going off to do your own thing. http://www.csse.monash.edu.au/~jwb/cgi-bin/wwwjdic.cgi?1C jisho.org also uses this dictionary, and I recommend jisho.org over Google when trying to find translations for specific words. -- Also recently you added a phonetic translation which is great, but you still failed to do something more important, an option to translate only nouns and verbs leaving the sentence structure and particles untranslated.
