"Io non ho votato berlusconi" (in italian) means that "I did not vote for Berlusconi". In spite of that google translator gives the opposite translation, from italian to all the languages i tried! So many people noticed that!!!
It's not a translation error and it's quite easy to prove it: just change the name of Berlusconi and google translator will be back giving correct translations. Well, it is obvious that this strange behaviour cannot be originated by some mistake, but there is surely a responsability of someone who deliberately decided to alter google translator results. I've always considered google to be one of the biggest engine of democracy for the power it has of making informations run around the world, with searches, with groups, with news and so on, untill translations. Tomorrow how can I be sure of what I'm reading in a foreign newspaper or blog if I need to use translation? And if google alters translations and the political meaning of foreign sentences, how can I be sure that google doesn't automatically alter the content of foreign sites? Everybody can understand that sometimes even adding simply a "not" can make a sentence non-sense or worse. And so, the big question is: should we now expect google to have a defined political position and try to alter public debates, or can we still hope google to be an instrument for democracy?
