Derek. Try writing something over say, one page long in the text box. Do not cut or paste anything there, just type as if you were writing to a friend. This is the most frustrating part. I sometimes spend over an hour composing something in google translate, only to see the entire composition disappear! and unrecoverable! I am still unable to default the manual translation. I have to click the button every time I open the page, even if I "bookmark" the page with manual translation, every time I open the page, I get the annoying instant translation. I just do not want to have to press the button every time I want to translate something, it should remember my settings. I see what you mean by the "favorite" languages being highlighted, but I seem to remember a version where your most frequently used languages are put at the TOP OF THE LIST not merely highlighted somewhere amongst the Urdu and Azerbaijani. Google translate should remember my favorites and settings every time. Why not? Google knows everything else about me!
