Hi all, I was wondering if someone could clarify something for me. I am currently learning German in my spare time and am currently working on adjectives and articles. I would like to know if I am going wrong.
The problem I have is as follows. Using the definite article: 'The secret garden' is translated as 'Der geheime Garten' [I know this much from the film!]. Using the indefinite article: 'A secret garden', I feel this should be translated as 'Ein geheimer Garten'. [Based on information in my Collins book]. Hope I'm Ok so far... However, when I type 'A secret garden' into google translate it seems to change the gender of 'Garten' to feminine and thus produces 'Eine geheime Garten'. Same thing happens when you translate 'A naughty pig'. Das Schwein becomes 'Eine freche Schwein' [?] instead of what I feel should be 'Ein freches Schwein'. Can anybody confirm either a problem with the translator or a problem with my understanding? Thanks, Ben. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "General" group.
