Looks like IE8 doesn't like the VML declaration in:

<html xmlns:v="urn:scheman-microsoft-com:vml">

My guess is that it should be 'schema' instead of 'scheman' (who is
supervillain in the Marvel universe?)

You can get this info by using the Developer tool in IE8 and trace the
script.
