Yes there was a change in the location where we serve the maps from. We used to serve the maps from http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/static/modules/gviz/1.0/geomap/mapfiles. As of our last release (December 7th) we serve the maps from http://www.gstatic.com/charts/geochart/1/mapfiles (e.g., http://www.gstatic.com/charts/geochart/1/mapfiles/world_COUNTRIES.js).
