That is interesting, Henry.  The code for creating the clip-path url is
identical for all browsers except IE9, and it uses the element's
setAttribute method to set the value to a string in all cases.  So it would
seem this difference you see must be related to either your browser or
something in your environment.   Could it be that you have an addon or
other JS library that affects the page?   We could possibly narrow this
down more quickly if you could point us at a page that shows, at least for
you, what you are seeing.
