I think that their move to prevent power users either devs or not, to access the most important google product about to be released, even 4 month after the presention, is not really smart, nor open source-like, it will only get power users & dev pissed off, and prevent the buzz to grow especially amongst casual user if there are too few early adopters.
Plus, altough wave seems to be a great product, its functions & principles are pretty natural and easy to adopt, so I wouldn't Be surprised if other start-ups starts showing up with alternatives. I hope the 100k accounts will be enough especially for those who signed 4 month ago right after the IO keynote, otherwise they really should send more.
