I tried again just now and it seems to work fine again. Does it work
for you now too? If so, then I guess it was not account related but
some temporary trouble with Wave itself.
Got an empty wave in my inbox now though, must be a bug. The creation
date is of when I logged in just now and I'm sure I didn't press the
new wave button.

There is a bug tracker for problems but I haven't got the link for it
right now, I had a harddrive crash a couple of days ago and lost all
my bookmarks. You should be able to google it though (with a bit of
luck). The page that links to the API docs has a link to the bug
tracker IIRC. If that page still exists, the wave.google.com site
doesn't link to it anymore after Google changed it to support account
logins. Well, I can't see it anyhow since it logs me in automatically
^^
