A JSON RPC message would be sent to the wave servers (which is the
current format for robot response to Wave). The servers would then
respond by creating the wave and populating it. A desktop application
would send the same sort of message, but with an authentication
request in there as well. Desktop applications would not be optimal
for creating waves directly, as the user can pull them apart and view
the username and password of either a robot or some other
authentication method. But that sending a request to the appspot
server location of your robot would keep them well away from your
robot authentication information.
