I've figured out how to stop displaying the characters moving during
playback by adding a event listener for the wave mode change callback
and flipping a mode flag that I can check in my other events and
return if it is playback. That works now, because the players no
longer walk in playback. However, Google Wave still records each
movement as a new version, even though it is no longer displaying any
actual movement.

So, basically this didn't solve the problem because I still end up
causing thousands of versions to been sprayed into the playback
buffer.

How do I stop this? I really need to know.
