Indeed! In the 1.4 past I actually did it with a one columned table and switching background colors.. I just recently noticed now having a readymade template class in 1.5 and thought in the next project I'm smarter than in the past and try to use more templates than coding too much oneself.
On a sidenote if anybody interested, on one of my websites I got the feedback that for users with colorblindness or generally not so god seeing, only hinting the selected item with color is not enough. Especially if its darkblue in contrast to lightblue like the default horizontal tabPanel of GWT (I know i can change the colors with CSS), but an additional hint like a bullet point, or bold, or something like that should be done (I know I can do this with listeners). Just wanted to suggest the default template to a bit more accessable for not so good sighted people.
