I would try to enable the verbose and debug flags of the compilation. In my experience sometimes the compilation fails for whatever reason and then the GWT compiler complains that it cannot find the class.
The debug logs of the compilation usually have enough information to diagnose and fix the problem. Hope this helps a bit.
