Well ... this problem turned out to be a css issue, not a gwt issue.

The submitButton was, in fact, there. But it was so far to the right
of my screen I couldn't see it and didn't realize it was there. I
just get faked out!

I have adjusted the css for positioning of the submitButton. I have
it now so it is at an acceptable position and with not a huge
difference between environments/browsers. There are differences
between environments (Linux vs. Windows) as well as across browsers
(FireFox vs IE, both on Windows). However, css positioning - and some
other elements of functionality in css - have always seemed to me to
deliver _approximate_ compatibility across browsers. I had not
previously experienced compatibility issues across OS environments.

Thank you.
