Workaround found. First, uninstall all GWT/Windowbuilder plugins. However, for me, this wasn't sufficient. After uninstalling plugins, search your eclipse workspace ".plugins" directory for all files matching *google*, i.e. files with filenames containing "google". Finally, reinstall GPE. This fixed the problem for me.
