Ok, that's the first piece of information I needed - it *should* work. I eventually tracked it down to having turned on plugin blocking some time ago. Perfectly obvious in retrospect, but six months later I had forgotten that the feature isn't "just block flash" it was "block all plugins". I'm up and running. Thanks. I still think a up-to-date grid somewhere in the docs showing plugin compatibility would be enormously helpful.
