Having the same problem, spent two whole nights trying to install gOS 3 to my harddisk, at first I tried to create a dual boot system next to the existing XP, but problems were so severe that I even used the "use whole disk" install, thereby overwriting my Windows XP ( a clean install, so no big deal) abandoning the idea of a dual boot system. Almost all attempts ended when the installer starts to read files from the CD to install on a disk, with an error message that boils down to "there is an error on the CD", but I am 100% sure there isn't an error on the CD, I downloaded two different ISO's and burned several CD's and even a few DVD's, but the error remains.
I tried everything, and have used gParted numerous times to clear the partition(s) that were created by the failed attempts. At one time I discovered that after assigning the whole disk to the windows partition (resizing the NTFS partition with gParted to fill the whole disk) that Windows reported just one fourth of the actual disk space, so I suspected a corrupted NTFS system was the cause of all my troubles, and I decided to removed the windows partition (after using "use whole disk" still ended with the same "bad CD" error message. After that it seemed the installer worked, until after almost finishing, the screen saver started (default it is on, and starts after 10 minutes, I suggest the installer should disable the screensaver, as the current increase in memory use when the screensaver starts might be fatal to the installer). I quickly interrupted the screen saver, but seconds later the installer crashed - again- this time with a complex error message. Other installation attempts after that one again gave the "bad disk" error but several attempts (after removing all the partitions again) hanged before even coming to the file copying part, at 5% of the install. So I gave up, I'm waiting for the final version once again. By the way, the installer will create partitions for gOS (a system and a swap partition), and will format them for the right filing system, so I never tried making a single partition and formatting it for FAT, as it seems to me it won't have any effect, as the partition will be removed anyway.
