It should be up near the clock. It may be set to only display when it is on battery power. Run it on battery and see if it appears If it doesn't, right click on the top near the clock and click "Add to Panel". It will open a window where you can drag the battery monitor up there. You can set the preferences by right clicking on it after it is there or appears by pulling the out the power cord.
