If I read correctly gOS 3.0 uses Gnome for it's window manager. So what you need to do is open up a terminal and run gconf-editor. Then expand on nautilus and then on desktop. You should see checkboxes for trash and home. That's how to do it with Ubuntu at least. Check it out.
