P.S. oh, if you can't find nautulus, its in the apps section, so its
first expand apps, then nautulus, then scroll to desktop, then set the
checkmarks.

In my case the icons disappeared when I installed an application, not
through Synaptics (where it wasn't available) but through a website
where a .deb package was downloaded which then was installed by the
updater/upgrader not Synaptics.

Maybe with gconf-editor you can also restore the shutdown and suspense
icons in the logout menu, another question here is how to get these
back.
