Thanks, Joby.

I can understand the problems gOS is facing and I do hope they're able
to work things out.

I tried version 3.0 and the Google Gadgets on the desktop look pretty
snazzy, however, there were a few problems with the boot screen
resolution and with the wireless card not being detected; also, we
still had this problem with fuzzy frizzling of windows whenever
they're opened or closed. (The Everex Stepnote apparently does not
have a graphics card for video acceleration; therefore, the Avant
Window Navigator dock could not be used.) I decided to try straight
Ubuntu 8.04 and noticed that it recognized the built-in Atheros
wireless card right away and the fuzzy frizzlin windows were gone.
(Did that fuzzy stuff have something to do with forcing graphics
acceleration to be done by the main processor?) Graphics acceleration
could not be activated, but I think we can live without the cool AWN
dock. I worked out the screen resolution with the help of the
technical support at Everex (It's 1440x900) and I now have a system
which is better for several reasons, not least of which is that I'll
be able to do updates and upgrades without having to reinstall from an
optical drive.

So, goodbye and good luck to gOS. At least, for now.
