Not sure why the instructions on the pendrivelinux web-site would not
be what you were looking for.

Pendrivelinux has two sets of instructions

an (updated) set of instructions on how to create a simple bootable
USB stick with gOS:

OR

If you do not want to use Windows or if you want a "persistent"
Live_USB (one that remembers changes you made, even after a re-boot)
