Often there is not enough data to decide objectively if one option is better than other. In such cases logic and reason can only carry us so far. What usually ends up happening in these cases is people arguing back and forth based on their personal views (which are largely shaped by their individual past experiences and therefore incompatible) until the person who less strongly about the issue (or just has less time to devote to arguing) gives up. I think a voting procedure would be more fair than that. Not that I'm saying a voting procedure is right for Mozilla - I don't know if it is.
