Voting blurs accountability. That's not the only reason we use the peer model, but it's a strong argument in its favor: there's no evidence that voting on complex technical issues offers better outcomes, but plenty of evidence that blurring accountability leads to worse. At the core of the peer model, we have this idea that people with a track record of good decisions are given the reponsibility of making the next one, and are held to account for that decision.
