How can I be assured of honest, forthright, and excellent Mozilla
products in light of the recent firing?
Linus,
For a start, because there was no firing.
https://blog.mozilla.org/blog/2014/04/05/faq-on-ceo-resignation/
describes the facts that I'm aware of, though of course the press has
done its best to misrepresent them, as it has throughout this incident.
As I understand the situation, a
coding genius and leading light in internet affairs was booted from
Mozilla because he exercised his California citizen's right to vote (for
either side) and to support a party to an open, official election in
California a decade ago.
Unfortunately, I think your understanding is colored by the biased and
inaccurate media coverage of the situation.
http://blog.gerv.net/2014/04/your-ire-is-misdirected/ has some more
discussion on what really happened and how the press handled it.
Obviously there are undoubtedly
more factors than are bandied about in the blogosphere. Please enlighten
us.
I hope the above links help some. There is more of a blow by blow
account at https://medium.com/p/7645a4bf8a2 or if you prefer your blow
by blow accounts longer and dramatized at

That said, how will you approach Mozillians' various ideas and variety
going forward?
I personally will do it the way I have in the past. I believe so will
the organization in general. I hope the above links give you some idea
of what that approach was, before the press blew the issue up by seeking
page views at the expense of truth.
Don't you value differences in opinion and direction as a
strength?
We do.
How will you make up for the loss of a genius at this craft?
We're still working that out, unfortunately. It will be hard; some
other people will need to step up to fill the many holes Brendan's
departure left.
Under this inner-directed leadership is Mozilla circling the drain?
I'm afraid this question is presupposing a claim that seems off to me:
that the leadership is inner-directed.
I appreciate you taking the time to write with thoughtful questions.
They were many cuts above the typical tenor this debate has had. I hope
that I was able to answer some of them, and that reading the things I
linked to above will answer more. Please feel free to mail me any
followup questions you have; if I don't have answers to them myself I
will try to get you in touch with someone who does.
Thank you,
Boris
