According to my sources, Mozilla's board tried quite hard to convince Brendan to stay at Mozilla, either as a CEO or, failing this, in his previous position as CTO. While there are a few members of the Mozilla community who openly disagreed with the nomination of Brendan, most of us stood behind him, regardless of our political opinions, because Mozilla believes strongly, just as you do, that one should not be targeted for participating in the democratic process. Also, please note that Brendan is still very much an active part of the Mozilla Project, in which he still holds a key position. I hope this helped to alleviate your concerns.
