One thing I'd ask you to consider is this: Brendan's contributions to
Proposition 8 where known since 2012. Since then, he was promoted twice,
first to Senior Vice President of Technology, then to CEO.

Yes, everyone at Mozilla underestimated (or didn't foresee at all) the
strong reactions to this last promotion. Including Brendan himself. Try
putting yourself in his shoes for a moment: those 10 days before he
resigned must have been the hardest time of his life. I'm pretty sure he
got threats targeting himself and his family, and he was buried under a
huge amount of insults. Additionally, he saw people trying to derail the
project that is his life's work. Is it entirely unbelievable that he
decided to step down to make all this stop?
