This is all true, but this is not the question that is being asked (fortunately!). Today, mailing lists @mozilla.org are still created from time to time. And non-personal aliases such as [email protected] and [email protected] also exist. So I think there should be no problem, in principle, with having such an alias to "own" various accounts. (It's people using it as their primary personal email which leads to the issues you mention above. But that's not in view here.)
