Hi all, As part of a project to clarify and consolidate our licensing and trademark policies, we've modified some of the language on the Site Licensing Policies page (https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/foundation/licensing/website-content/), which is linked from the footer of most Mozilla web pages. Users often misunderstand that open licenses for copyright rights such as Creative Commons don't include rights under trademark law or other intellectual property rights. The current language says, in part:
"Trademark rights in the trademarks, logos, service marks of the Mozilla Foundation, as well as the look and feel of this website, are not licensed under the terms mentioned above. Details of permitted uses for our trademarks can be found in our Style Guide. The logo files containing our trademarks are available under the following copyright licenses: vector logo files under CC-BY 3.0 or later; bitmap logo files under MPL 2." We're revising the above notice (though not changing the actual license) to make sure we're being clear about our position on our trademarks. Our proposed revised text is here: "Rights in the trademarks and service marks of Mozilla, as well as the look and feel of this website, are not licensed under the terms mentioned above. However, we support you making full use of your rights under fair use, fair dealing and other exceptions and limitations to trademark, and Mozilla also allows some additional uses under our Trademark Policy <https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/foundation/trademarks/policy/>. Please see our Trademark Policy for further information." Thoughts/comments appreciated. Please post any feedback here by EOD August 14.
