Isn't the XML form of an i2b2 query more what we're using for interoperation? That's what we've done for breast cancer, obesity, and (to a lesser extent) ALS. I think of our use of SQL (e.g. in QA checks) as an expedient when we can tell what the generated SQL looks like, so that we can, in some sense, run hundreds or thousands of i2b2 queries with one SQL query. Maybe it's not an essential distinction. -- Dan
