George Here is the abstract of the proposal for use of deidentified pathology notes. I observe that it would not require running through all the IRB approval for general deployment of the software in i2b2. Perhaps we should call for proposals from other GPC sites as well?
Jim "It is our vision that structured, coded, ONC standardized data inclusive of anatomic pathology, proteomic and genomic testing results are available in i2b2 for research in Precision Cancer Medicine(PCM) across all datamarts of GPC. All datamart managers for GPC will develop and deploy extracts for pathology synoptic reports from their EHRs. They will implement MCW deidentification software for the repository of pathology reports as a preliminary step to exposing synoptic pathology text for NLP research. Nebraska Medicine has developed the terminology for structured coding of path report content for breast, colorectal, lung, pancreatic cancer and melanoma. Nebraska will provide NLP software that will analyze a pathology report for these cancer types and encode textual results as structured coded data in compliance with College of American Pathologists coding standards. GPC sites will employ their deidentified path report repository to tailor the specifics of the NLP software to their local document structures and wording. A survey research project revisiting the aims of RCR for breast and colorectal cancers will summarize the database enhancements delivered by the project for PCM."
