Jim,

At the local Lawrence and Hanson electrical wholesaler cat 5 300metre
rolls vary in price from $70 to $110 per roll. The $110 brand is the
very good stuff. The same brand of cat 6 was $140 a roll.

Cat6 is packaged differently, with the cable actually on a cable drum so it comes off without twisting. This will add to the price of a box. MSO only buys stuff in 500m lots; and he's out so I can't ask him what the real price is - the price you get quoted isn't the real wholesale price. You can only get to that price when you are a regular buyer of enough cable because then you get discounts off the 'wholesale' price according to your $ purchase value per annum.

Liz,

This was in the same boxes that have the drum inside and the cable comes out through a plastic spigot designed for the purpose identically to the cat 5 I referred to. I have a box in my garage, it is very easy to use for smaller jobs.

It allows cablers to pull out lengths direct from the box. I'm not sure if this pacakaging would also be useful with setting up the large bundles one sees in large implementations with a 100 plus outlet patch panel and switch cabinet.
