My understanding was that a huge number of Cardiologists had been 'incorporated' by DCA and that they were 'employees' with significant shareholdings. The business was not owned by the practitioners but by DCA.

Specialists of any calibre tend not to be associated with medical centres imho. The future is specialists forming their own groups with shared resources, multidisciplinary care and having it owned by the Drs not a corporate. We have all seen our radiology and pathology colleagues sell the farm and end up disgruntled labourers. The integration that is more likely to occur is specialists sharing adn EHR and possibily extending it into hospital care with electronic discharges as I have mentioned previously. Another option we are investigating is a web interface to our EHR that will allow GPs to logon and look up their patients results adn reports and make appointments .. dont need to all be owned by the same corporate or use the same EMR to make it happen .. stay tuned hopefully working by second half of the yr.
