Interoperability Framework
NEHTA has published its Interoperability Framework v1.0 for comment.
1st April 2006. Of course it's significant.
NEHTA is a temporary interoperability organisation, it has no scope
to design and build anything real. It is governed by the
jurisdictions, who are clueless that the wealth of information known
to GPs about patients could help them.
Meanwhile....life goes on.
No doubt something useful will emerge one day.
BTW, the fundamental problem with IT in the 90's was "capture of IT
initiatives by the technocrats, rather than management".
NEHTA will be a classic case study in this, and has no opportunity to
do anything different, because of that way it was set up.
The Qld health system rot set in 20 years ago in when medically
qualified personnel were deemed unsuitable for executive positions.
Now we see the total fallout of that decision, long after the fools
who made it are gone and will never bear any responsibility.
Ian.
