ECS works by culling data from polled GP systems and transmitting an XML file to a shared server application called SCI Store and stored in the patient record as an XML blob. This data is available to a limited (so-far) number of out of hours providers via a web browser Patients can
Hi Ian, the Scottish stuff looks really good and as a model would probably work here in oz. Perhaps you can answer some quick questions for me 1) at what level is the standardisation done with the GP systems ie. is the XML that is sent to the SCI Store standardised (and if so, can you give us a pointer to the standard) and the role of the GP systems vendors is to get their clinical data into that format -or- Is some interface level standardised that the GP system vendors must meet, and the ECS calls into this interface to extract the data it needs? For either of these approaches, is the terminology home grown or an international (i.e. medication codes), or is the data not coded? I presume there are multiple GP system vendors? 2) How were the GP vendors convinced to do the work - was it carrot or stick?
