But, once you get the enthusiasts and "planners" involved, then it
starts to get the typical software bloat problems; why can't we have the
discharge BP, what about when their next clinic appointment is ; why
can't we message them about their appointment? Before you know it,
non-clinicians are writing frighteningly inaccurate scenarios about the
inflated benefits and finally the bubble bursts.

Michael,

Recently I attended a workshop on the Managed Health Networks initiative, hosted by our SBO.

We had our friends from DoHA presenting a video about the Eastern Goldfields site. Glowing acceptance from the interviewed locals, all the bells and whistles in the world. Set up by Cisco and IP Systems. What was clear was they'd spent a fortune on a small implementation, using top-end-of-town contractors. Cost was no doubt far more than is on offer in the MHN proposals, yet EGRRS was the 'model' site.

Next came a NSW health person, responsible for the hospital-clinicians comms system being set-up in Newcastle, which like yours, is part of the HealthConnect piloting. Totally different story from DoHA. She talked about how hard it is, how long it takes, how many issues are to be resolved re access, privilege and security, how thin GPs are in terms of their technical support infrastructures, etc.

In short 'real world' as opposed to your 'enthusiasts and "planners"', or should I say government publicists?
