Surely its time the PSA, NPS, PBAC, PHARM, APAC, TGA, APMA, and the
government fixed this problem!

Each product's CMI can be found at the National Prescribing Service
website: www.nps.org.au

Not true! The NPS web site says:

"In Australia there is no single electronic set of all CMI available.
Our website service has many CMI leaflets in PDF format for you to view
and print."

One could ask why (in 2006) there is still no up-to-date Australian
national electronic repository of CMI (or PI)?

The end result of this government (&/or TGA) ineptitude is that
different software packages (GP & pharmacist) and different web sites
contain different sets of CMI, that are not complete and not always
up-to-date. For example:

The DoHA web site tells you what CMI is but not where to get it!

http://www.health.gov.au/internet/wcms/publishing.nsf/Content/nmp-pdf-cmi-cnt.htm

The Australian government's HealthInsite web site links to MIMS myDr web
site which states it has 1800 CMIs available on-line:

http://www.healthinsite.gov.au/topics/Medicines

The Victorian government's Better Health Channel Medicines Guide says it
contains over 750 Consumer Medicine Information sheets.

http://www.betterhealth.vic.gov.au/bhcv2/bhcsite.nsf/pages/bhc_medicinesguide?opendocument

The RACGP Web site states it holds CMI and PI information developed by a
limited range of pharmaceutical manufactures and therefore does not
cover all drugs.

The Australian Prescription Products Guide notes that it includes more
than 3,900 prescription and non-prescription (PIs) and nearly 2000 CMIs.
However, the CMIs in the APPG are only available to people who pay $200
per annum subscription.

At least, the NPS offers to track down CMIs not on their web site:

http://www.nps.org.au/site.php?content=/resources/content/cmi_search.php

Meanwhile, in New Zealand, Medsafe DO provide a single national
repository of CMI. Perhaps they can offer to make this available to the
TGA as part of the TransTasman harmonisation!
