I think David is misusing the term and actually means low tea
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_tea)."High tea" is still occasionally observed up our way but the tea has been replaced by a sparkling white Australian wine (after the /M/*é*/thode Champagnois/e) and finishes about midnight when we are totally smashed.
