Clear now? I thought not. I suggest that we just all go on sending
good referrals by whatever means and in whatever format we find most
efficient and helpful for patients' care.

Oliver,

The fact that the AMA newsletter referred to two issues, the first being their requirement for secure messaging of referrals to use an individual HeSa key, the second, that faxed referrals had to be followed up by the posted/patient-carried/carrier-pigeoned/paper-darted original was never in doubt, as far as I was concerned.

I thought the latter might be an incentive to the former, however. My view is that the AMA is trying to address GP red-tape issues, by advising their newsletter readers of their options and obligations.

Similarly, I've been using the same Medical Centre for 15+ years and NEVER been offered a copy of the Medicare bulk-bill voucher that I've signed.

Further, I've been providing PDF copies of the Medicare Australia's 'Mediguide' for several years. The HIC assured me some time ago that EVERY practice received each new edition. I've NEVER seen a copy at a practice, or had a receptionist or GP recognise the document from the cover when I open the PDF.

What all this means is simply that MA and its predecessor are inefficient.

I'm sure, however, that a complaint from me or a patient would have a 'Z' car on your doorstep directly, however, if they were told you weren't complying with one or other of these requirements.
