RoR's object persistance / database abstraction layer is (mostly) backend 
agnostic. Current "out of the box" Rails installations usually include 
Postgres interface as well as MySQL or Interbase/Firebird- but it could be 
left to the preference of the "expert" end user to chose if they dislike 
the "standard" distribution
