put simply 1. Knowledge of how to connect to the HCN database 2. Teach yourself to design data driven web pages - although Apache, RoR and php are excellent, the fact that MD is so deeply bound to Windows makes it more efficient to use IIS and (ASP + Frontpage) or (ASP.Net with Visual Web Developer) .
The first time you open a page which returns the data you want is one of those Eureka moments - then you're hooked and you have an incentive to teach yourself some more advanced scripting and SQL to really get the most out of it. Our intranet has evolved over 6 years but has really become useful when the Care Plans got into full swing.
