As far as Argus goes, let me say this, I believe that Argus has creditably carved out a role for itself as a provider of secure email between providers and I think it has a role in that area, I have no problem with that.
Thanks Tom. Secure email between providers takes in GP/specialist communications, hospital/GP/specialist reports, pathology reports, radiology reports, allied health reports to GPs. All these are considered high value to most GPs and Argus is currently handling almost all of these.
My only issues with Argus are;
(ii) SMTP/E-mail is not fit for all messaging purposes and should not be portrayed as being so, it is not scaleable. This has been demonstrated repeatedly and I do not propose to go into this in detail here. But such as system has a place.
Agreed it is not optimal for all purposes; that is why Argus is implementing Web Services capabilities over Q1/Q2 of 2007. However I have seen no proof that it is not scaleable. On the contrary, email has proven to be VERY scaleable in terms of volume. Just ask stats on volume from any of the larger email server providers. Our national volumes (although not any where near the level of HealthLink's in NZ) are quite respectable now and email has the advantage of distributing that load across a wide part of the internet. No single point of channelling nor single point of failure.
- Argus appears to be forging itself a very useful place in secure provider to provider communications by enhancing the way in which the sector can use email.
Thanks Tom.  :-*
